PartnersWhy Have Partners? Partners as Facilitators/Participants (expertise in/expertise out) Who Were Our Partners? E-Growth Community Project Partners
Partners who work with people who could be potential participants realize the benefit to their clients of learning business and computer skills and refer them to the project. The partner’s may be people who would not normally visit your organization because of their lack of technological knowledge and/or the lack of awareness and understanding of what the project offered. Since one of the E-Growth project’s goals was the focus on inclusion and reducing barriers, reaching these potential participants was vital.
Partners as Facilitators/Participants Expertise In: By including local businesses, agencies and service provider representatives as facilitators the variety of educational offerings is increased and participants are exposed to a wider selection of expertise, subjects, views and methods. Partners benefit by having the opportunity to raise awareness about their organization or business. Expertise Out: By including the same partners as participants in workshops and events the level and use of technology within the community is raised and more individuals/ businesses/ organizations were exposed to the Kiwanis Enterprise Centre and its mission/services. Business/organizations benefited as employees/members gained technology skills for web design and administrative duties. Unemployed participants benefited by networking with potential employers in a non-hierarchical setting.
Having Partners host events and workshops allowed them to raise the Participant’s awareness of the services and programs they offer. Externally hosted workshops and events introduce participants to other venues, expanding their comfort zone and breaking down barriers to learning.
Many Partners have extensive databases and email notification systems. By tapping into this resource, dissemination of information can be maximized without spending extra time, energy or money. Partners forward emails containing workshop and event information to their mailing lists. This strategy increases attendance to workshops and events and reaches potential participants who may otherwise be missed.
The Media can play a very positive and important part in a communications plan. Create strong ties with representatives from all available media outlets. Discover important information such as: deadlines, word counts and photo types/sizes for articles, and the correct email addresses and follow them. The media will publish press releases and cover events if given ample lead time.
